Abstract

This study aims to examine the representation of disability in the Qur’an by employing a thematic exegesis (*tafsīr*) approach grounded in *maqāṣid al-Qur’an* (the objectives of the Qur’an)—specifically, the six-dimensional systemic theory developed by Jasser Auda. This approach is used to interpret verses that relate, either directly or indirectly, to disability, while taking into account socio-cultural contexts and universal values such as justice (*‘adl*), mercy (*rahmah*), and human dignity (*karāmah insāniyyah*). The research is motivated by the continued prevalence of religious interpretations that emphasize patience and resignation—perspectives that often overlook issues of structural justice and social responsibility toward persons with disabilities. Utilizing a qualitative methodology based on a literature review, this study analyzes Qur’anic verses through the six dimensions of *maqāṣid*: objectives, interconnectedness, contextuality, cognition, values, and multidimensionality. The findings indicate that a *maqāṣid*-based approach can shift the paradigm of exegesis from one that is individualistic and charity-oriented toward one that is more inclusive, participatory, and focused on social transformation. Such an interpretation not only affirms the rights of persons with disabilities but also shapes a collective ethical horizon for the Muslim community, fostering the creation of social and religious systems that are accessible and equitable for all. Furthermore, this study contributes to the development of *maqāṣidī* exegesis as a relevant framework for addressing contemporary humanitarian issues.
