Revitalizing the Qur’an in the Scholarly Dimension: Integrating the Qur’an into Global Issues (Ecology, Technology, Science, and Bioethics)

Abstract

This article examines the concept of *Ihya’ al-Qur’an* (the revitalization of the Qur’an) as an integrative scholarly paradigm for addressing various contemporary global issues, particularly the ecological crisis, technological advancement, the rapid pace of scientific development, and bioethical challenges. Stemming from a critique of the secular-modern paradigm—which separates revelation from scientific knowledge—this study aims to formulate a model for integrating the Qur’an as an epistemological and ethical foundation for the development of a civilized body of knowledge. The research employs a qualitative-descriptive methodology based on a literature review, utilizing philosophical, theological, and hermeneutical approaches—specifically through a conceptual analysis of the principle of *tawhid* (divine oneness), the Islamic worldview (*tasawwur Islam*), and Fazlur Rahman’s "double movement" method. The findings indicate that *Ihya’ al-Qur’an* is capable of reconstructing the ontological and epistemological foundations of knowledge by harmoniously synthesizing revelation, reason, and empirical experience. In the ecological context, the Qur’an offers an eco-theological framework rooted in the concepts of *khalifah* (stewardship), *mīzān* (balance), and the prohibition of *fasād* (corruption/destruction), serving as a basis for a sustainable environmental ethic. Regarding technology and science, the integration of the Qur’an functions as an ethical framework that guides scientific development, ensuring it does not fall into the traps of reductionism, exploitation, or dehumanization. This article asserts that *Ihya’ al-Qur’an* is not merely a normative project, but rather a strategic scholarly paradigm—one that is highly relevant for constructing a contemporary body of knowledge that is morally, spiritually, and socially responsible.
